Peritia

Peritia is the name of a proposed first settlement implementing the Minimalistic Resource-Based Economy (MRBE) socioeconomic model, a minimalistic low-budget socioeconomic system inspired on The Venus Project's Resource-Based Economy (RBE) and The Zeitgeist Movement's About the Natural Law Resource Based Economy (NLRBE). The RBE10K Project (a design for implementing MRBE) and Peritia (a proposed first experimental implementation of RBE10K) were conceived in 2013, and was crowdsourced and supported by people all over the world, with the goal of implementing in 2015, but it didn't manage to sustain the momentum needed to make the project a reality, and most crowdsourcing activity ceased mid 2014.

Lifestyle

The Peritian lifestyle is somewhat similar to that of an isolated University campus, with the lifestyle focused on learning, teaching, discussion, activities, social life, doing and enjoying art, and partying. The main differences are that all studies in Peritia are informal and personalised, that the dorms have capsule beds instead of shared bedrooms, and that all Peritians take care of the teaching and general maintenance, as well as the learning.

In Peritia, all activities and interactions are mediated with a few different software applications, such as Coordinate.

Peritia: The Graphic Novel

Peritia: The Graphic Novel is a graphic novel of 40 chapters, 160 pages, situated in Peritia, a town founded in 2027 in the northern island of Fiji (Vanua Levu), near Savusavu city, developed on an old coconut farm by ten thousand volunteers trialling the MRBE socioeconomic model using the RBE10K system. The story focuses on the events leading to founding of the second MRBE settlement, in 2029, as narrated by Dinarah Muni, a journalist with The Guardian Media Group, and Janus, the founder of the Peritia project.

Storyline

The storyline of Peritia: The Graphic Novel opens with Dinarah, an English journalist, finding about Peritia and being sent to write a story for The Guardian's The Observer. During the introduction, we learn about Dinarah's life in England, and Janus' life in Peritia, who is rushing to push for the implementation of a new MRBE settlement. Dinarah eventually travels to Peritia, where she spends two weeks learning about the Peritian way of life, its inhabitants, its origins, its values, art and style, and its future. There she meets and interviews many Peritians, always accompanied by Guanyu, Peritia's journalist and documentarist, and they develop chemistry and a romance. By the end of Dinarah's planned stay, it is decided that she will stay one more month to assist with an upcoming documentary film about the founding of a new MRBE settlement, in which Dinarah, Guanyu and Janus work together with the rest of the main characters. By the end of her stay, Dinarah is torn between returning to her life in England or joining the new settlement.

The original storyline draft was written in April 2015.

MRBE Resources

The Minimalist Resource-Based Economic socio-economic system (MRBE) that Peritia implements is unique but takes elements and inspiration on multiple existing and planned projects, including The Venus Project, The Zeitgeist Movement, Earthship Biotecture, OneCommunity Global, Open Source Ecology, and multiple others. See MRBE Resources for a comprehensive list.
